Red Ink Memories

Red ink memories
I do not miss you
But I feel lost without you--
What am I to do
Now that I have rebelled against you?
Now that I have rebelled against my fate?
Or am I simply embracing it?
Red ink memories
Stay away
Do not come back
Do not try to guide me
Do not try to haunt me.
Red ink memories
Like a ghost of what was meant to be,
Like a ghost of a future possible.
Red ink memories
Let me be.

  1. interesting....had two thoughts at first....the red ink being jesus words in the bible...or an editors marks on writing...by your little profile i will guess the first....def feeling the desire to separate from it, in your words.

  4. Wow, when I think of red ink memories I think of the red ink that teachers used to use when they corrected papers. Ha, I don't miss those days. So wonderful to see you in Poetry Pantry!

  5. I believe that attention paid to daily things in the present is a Savior in these circumstances. Ultimately, the narrator need not worry. By the time she writes these words her distance is already far. (I used the word Savior deliberately, thinking of Brian's words above.)

  6. Ah alas, it is about a failed attempt to become a teacher. Mary had it.
